Be a Sign of Mercy: Peter’s Pence Collection 2023

Peter’s Pence is the name for the financial help offered by the faithful to the Holy Father in support of his apostolic and charitable mission in favour of the universal Church and the entire world.

Peter’s Pence helps the Holy Father exercise his universal mission in two ways:

  • makes possible many works of service throughout the universal Church, carried out by the Dicasteries that assist the Pope in evangelisation, the promotion of integral human development, education, communication, etc;
  • contributes to numerous charitable works directly assisting the most in need (people and families in distress, populations hit by natural disasters or war, or who are in need of humanitarian assistance or development support).

Each donation, small or large, also has a powerful symbolic value – it is a concrete sign of communion with the Holy Father. Pope Francis calls each of us to witness to charity and to show God’s mercy to one another. He encourages us to “open our eyes and see the misery of the world, the wounds of our brothers and sisters who are denied their dignity, and let us recognize that we are compelled to heed their cry for help!” (Misericordiae Vultus [MV], no. 15).

The Peter’s Pence collection takes place in the Diocese of St. John’s-Basseterre on Sunday 25th July 2023Please contact Mrs. Noleen Azille (Director of PMS and Stewardship) for further information.
