ABOUT US
The Catholic Church is organized into geographic territories called episcopal conferences, dioceses, and eparchies, each administered by a bishop. The Diocese of St. John’s Basseterre was established on January 16, 1971 as the Diocese of St. John’s and was later renamed the Diocese of St. John’s -Basseterre on 21st June, 1981.
It is situated in the Eastern Caribbean and encompasses two independent countries – Antigua & Barbuda and St. Kitts & Nevis – as well as three dependent territories – British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, and Anguilla – comprising a total of nine parishes and six Catholic schools.
The main cathedral and the bishop’s residence are located in St. John’s, Antigua, while the co-cathedral is in Basseterre, St. Kitts. The Diocese of St. John’s Basseterre is part of the Province of Castries and the Antilles Episcopal Conference of Bishops (AEC).
