Christian Council expresses concern over increase in crime & violence

The Antigua Christian Council has added to the growing call nationally for an urgent and sustainable approach to address the increasing incidence of crime and violence in Antigua and Barbuda. In recent months, there has been an uptick in gun-related crimes, including a spate of armed robberies occurring at several establishments across this country. The latest, and perhaps most disturbing account in recent times is the gruesome slaying of a fifteen – year old teenage girl, whose body was discovered at Runaway Beach on Sunday 18th August.

The Council, through its press release has asked for a conscious and honest examination of the issues and conditions which seem to foster the cycle of criminality, particularly among young males. They have made a clarion call for all stakeholders to unify their efforts to arrest this growing problem so that we may be able to return to a state of relative peace and tranquility in the State of Antigua and Barbuda.
