Mr. Anthony Michael Lawrence Ordained to the Permanent Diaconate
The Diocese of St. John’s Basseterre joyfully announces the ordination of Mr. Anthony Michael Lawrence to the Permanent Diaconate. This sacred milestone represents a significant moment in the life of our diocesan community as Mr. Lawrence reaffirmed his obedience to God’s call to serve the Church and the faithful in this venerable ministry. The joyful event took place at St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Anguilla on Sunday, November 16, 2025.
The Permanent Diaconate is one of three degrees of Holy Orders. Deacons are called to a three-fold ministry of Word, Liturgy, and Charity, serving as a bridge between the altar and the world, bringing the Gospel message to the people and the needs of the people to the Church.
Against the backdrop of the beautiful sanctuary of St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Anguilla, Bishop Llanos affirmed that Mr. Lawrence has completed extensive theological formation and pastoral preparation for this sacred office. His ordination will enable him to proclaim the Gospel, preach, baptize, witness marriages, and assist at the altar during the celebration of the Eucharist. Most importantly, he will be called to serve the poor, the marginalized, and those in need within our diocese. He encouraged the newly ordained to “utilize your gifts that you have been given, and use them well…utilize your gifts and let what God has given become fruitful in your life.”
The ordination ceremony was a profound celebration of faith, bringing together Clergy, Religious, family, friends, and parishioners to witness this solemn commitment. A most beautiful element of the celebration was the laying on of hands by the Bishop and the prayer of consecration, which configured Mr. Lawrence to Christ the Servant, marking him permanently for service to God’s people.
The Diocese of St. John’s-Basseterre extends its prayerful support and congratulations to Mr. Anthony Michael Lawrence as he commences his ministry in the Diocese and more specifically, to the church in Anguilla. We invite all members of the faithful to keep him in their prayers as he embarks on this lifelong journey of diaconal service.
